Wright Brothers - First in Flight - December 17,  1903 - The world's first manned and powered flight,  10:35 a.m.,  December 17,  1903,  advancing 120 feet.   The brothers flew a total of four flights that day,  the longest covering 852 feet in 59 seconds.
"The first flight lasted only twelve seconds,  a flight very modest compared with that of birds,  but it was,  nevertheless,  the first in the history of the world in which a machine carrying a man had raised itself by its own power into the air in free flight,  had sailed forward on a level course without reduction of speed,  and had finally landed without being wrecked." - Wilber and Orville Wright

On March 11th,  the six-month anniversary of the World Trade Center terrorist attacks,  two enormous beams of light were lit to honor those lives lost on September 11th.   The lights also celebrated the spirit of all those who are helping to rebuild this great city.   The lights shone each night for one month.
