#1971 Robbins Reef Light New York, NY length = 3-1/4, height = 5-1/8 inches 3/4 inch thick Retired 12/31/01, Price Information & history on back of plaque: Robbins Reef Light was built in 1839. John Walker received the first keeper's appointment. When he died, his German immigrant wife, Kate, applied for the keeper's appointment. Objections were raised because she was only four feet, ten inches and weighed barely one hundred pounds. But she proved her worth by keeping the light burning and rescuing as many as 50 people blown into the reef.
